Fundraising
Here are some fundraising hints and tips
A) Fundraising ideas
Pick something you have a passion about or skills you can use. Fundraising together can be fun and brings people together for a cause that is important to them. A personal challenge, for example: give up chocolate, get fitter – try the couch to 5K challenge together!
- Tea parties and bake sales.
- Dinners, balls, concerts
- Pub quiz /sports or games challenge or competition
- Search for fundraising ideas on the internet, there are loads of helpful sites.

B) Sponsored Events
Once you have decided on an event, please let us know. This means you will have official sponsorship forms to use accompanied by a letter from us, which may help if you want to ask for sponsors at school or work.
A good way to stage a sponsorship event is in a group, as you will motivate one another and have a wider pool of resources. A big enough event may attract media attention too.
Don’t be afraid to go it alone. A sponsored slim, walk or bike ride are easy to organise and once you have collected your list of sponsors, the motivation will be there.

C) What does the Charity need from me?
We’d love to hear from you so that we are aware of your efforts , can provide encouragement , help and a letter in support of your fundraising. Please take photographs during your fundraising event if possible. Please ensure you have consent from those in your photos .These can then be published on our website if you are happy. If you need someone from the Derby and Burton breast and eye charity to attend the event or say a few words, please let us know and we will do our best to support you.
Tell your story
Tell your story to maximise understanding and potential support for your cause. Ask a local business for support (they may be prepared to match any donations you achieve) – email us to ask for a letter of support here Uhdb.derbyandburtonbreastandeyecharity@nhs.net
Remember to ask if any donation is eligible for gift aid . Gift Aid is a government scheme which means donations made by UK taxpayers are worth an extra 25% at no extra cost to them. That means that every £1 donated to your fundraising is worth £1.25p! (However, if you’re asking for donations in return for goods or services, like a raffle or bake sale, this won’t be eligible for Gift Aid.)

Gift in Memory
Remember a loved one and support the Derby and Burton breast and eye charity by donating in memory. We truly appreciate people thinking about our charity at a very difficult time.
If you would like to donate in memory, there are two ways very simple ways you can do this:
a) Ask people to donate to the charity instead of bringing flowers. Most funeral directors will have donation boxes they can offer for your use along with their advice, such as you can add the link to our charity website at the end of the order of service.
b) Create a tribute fund – Setting up a tribute fund is a generous way of remembering a loved one. Please ask your funeral directors and get in touch with us Uhdb.derbyandburtonbreastandeyecharity@nhs.net
Gift in Celebration
Asking your family and friends to donate to the Derby and Burton breast and eye charity instead of bringing gifts is a fantastic way to raise money. Make your birthday, wedding, or special occasion extra special by asking for donations in lieu of presents to the Derby and Burton breast and eye charity. This really helps us to make a difference to our patients.
Tell your story
Gifts in Wills over the years has significantly supported our work and helped us make a real difference to patients who use our services. Making a gift in your Will, be that a percentage of your estate, a lump sum, shares, or a valuable item, is a very generous way of helping make a difference to patient care.
After providing for loved ones, we would like to ask you to consider leaving the Derby and Burton breast and eye charity a gift in your Will, so that together we create a lasting legacy.
What is a legacy?
A legacy is any gift (monetary or asset) left in a person’s Will; an instruction for part of your estate to be given to an individual or organisation after your death.
Why leave a gift in my Will to Derby and Burton breast and eye charity?
The NHS provides healthcare services to the whole of our local South Derbyshire population.
The Derby and Burton breast and eye charity , an independent local charity, can help by providing new and innovative additional equipment and as a result new ways of working which are over and above what NHS funding can provide. Large or small, your legacy donation can make such a difference to our patients and staff across the organisation. After you’ve taken care of the people closest to you, a gift in your Will could be invaluable to our local patients.
