An Eye Patient’s View

Hello, I am a semi-retired Radiologist at the University Hospitals of Derby & Burton (UHDB). I am also a trustee of the Derby and Burton eye charity and have been fortunate to receive excellent care from the Derby eye clinic as a patient for almost 30 years. I have had complex eye problems including a detached retina, bilateral cataracts and bilateral Glaucoma and have undergone minimally invasive surgery for these conditions.

Despite being an extremely busy unit, I have received top quality care from the Derby eye clinic. I have also learnt over the years how critical it is for the eye clinic to utilise cutting edge (and expensive) technology in diagnostic non-invasive imaging modalities to support diagnostic and therapeutic needs. The use of such technology allows efficient and focused care and treatment across a spectrum of visual conditions.

I have stable visual acuity thanks to the efforts of the staff in the Derby eye clinic and I’m most grateful to them. I hope you will agree that support for their appeal for a new anterior segment type of OCT machine is a very worthwhile cause. This new technology would help keep Derby eye clinic at the forefront of modern eye imaging whilst maintaining the excellence of care in the Derby eye clinic.
